ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
A.
Job Knowledge and Role Responsibilities:
1) Demonstrates knowledge of age specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents with regard to medical records duties in the Nursing Department.
2) Attends all mandatory inservices by employee’s anniversary date.
3) Acts appropriately under the direction of the Director of Health Information Services and acts as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.
4) Demonstrates ability to adjust to changes in shift assignments to meet facility and department needs.
5) Successfully completes facility-conducted orientation of specialized dementia unit, as appropriate.
6) Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with the Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program when performing work functions.
B.
Administrative Responsibilities:
1) Prepares Admission/re-admission charts, by inputting basic information.
2) Files completed chart forms on appropriate charts.
3) Maintains the order of the medical record and their appearance.
4) Assembles and prepares closed charts for final filing in the Medical Records Room.
5) Copies Medical Records for Business Office on request for Third Party Payor.
6) Schedules diagnostic and laboratory tests as requested by nursing.
7) Replaces other Ward Clerks or Director of Health Information Services as needed.
8) Directs Nursing Aids to those residents that request help (call bell).
9) Answers phones when Nursing Staff is busy or absent from desk.
C.
Role Responsibilities-Interpersonal Skills:
1) Is aware of, and adheres to, Resident’s Bill of Rights and Confidentiality of Resident Information.
2) Interacts with residents, family members, co-workers, clinical and ancillary staff in a non-judgmental, supportive and calm manner.
3) Addresses employee satisfaction issues immediately and assists in resolving the matter in a professional manner.
4) Is aware of Resident Abuse Reporting Law.
5) Participates as assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a positive, helpful and enthusiastic attitude.
D.
Role Responsibilities-Safety:
1) Demonstrates ability to locate emergency equipment (i.
e.
fire extinguisher).
2) Understands and can demonstrate knowledge of role in Fire and Disaster drills.
3) Demonstrates ability to identify and respond appropriately to potential behavioral outbursts.
4) Uses facility equipment safely.
5) Recognizes, removes, and/or reports potential hazards.
E.
Role Responsibilities-Resident Dignity:
1) Ensures understanding of, and compliance with, all rules regarding residents’ rights.
2) Addresses residents in a respectful manner.
3) Discusses confidential resident information in appropriate areas only.

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
1) Medical Records experience and knowledge to perform the job functions preferred.
2) Must be at least 18 years of age.
3) Possesses experience in typing, filing, computer skills, medical terminology, ICD-9 coding, and other clerical functions.
4) Possesses strong organizational skills, and attention to detail, and projects a professional image.
5) Must meet health assessment requirements, including two stage Mantoux skin test.
6) Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
7) Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and possesses sufficient communication skills to perform the tasks required.
